Police intervene in Wizkid, Linda Ikeji feud

Talk about childish and immature display of actions.. I keji had filed a threat to life complaint against the singer after he publicly threatened to send his teenage cousin to beat her up. Confirming that the blogger lodged a complain, the Lagos State police command’s spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent (SP) said the Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni has brokered peace between them. She said: “Yes, the command received a petition of threat to life from Linda Ikeji against Ayo Balogun. The CP has waded into the issue between Wizkid and Linda Ikeji. Alternative dispute resolution was used and the parties left in peace.”  The social media feud between the duo climaxed after the blogger published a report that Wizkid was facing eviction problems from his supposed Lekki home. So far there have been too many attacks for comfort and the Government is still making enquiries...while lives are being lost. Nigerian government working “silently” to resolve herdsmen and farmers clashes

The Federal Government on Sunday said it is working “silently” towards finding a lasting solution to the incessant attacks allegedly being perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen across many states. The Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, disclosed this during a special prayer for the stability of the nation by an Islamic group, Saadatul Abadiyyah Organisation of Nigeria. Mr. Mohammed was also honoured as the Grand Patron of the group at the event held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital. The EFCC have arrested PTAD boss and three others over alleged N2.5 billion fraud – Three staff of the directorate were also arrested – Investigations revealed that that PTAD boss misappropriated about N2 billion of the said amount The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Nellie Mayshak, the director general of the Pension Transition Arrangement Directorate (PTAD), Daily Trust reports. The fund was said to have been inherited from the pension’s account of the head of the civil service mainly meant for Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigeria Customs Service, and Nigeria Prisons Service.

Boko Haram ambushes Nigeria military commander’s convoy

Nigeria’s army said late Monday that 24 soldiers had been wounded as troops repelled Boko Haram insurgents who attacked the military in northeast Borno state. “So far our troops had two officers and 22 soldiers wounded in action. All of them have been evacuated to military hospital (in) Maiduguri where they are receiving treatment,” the army said in a statement. Boko Haram militants had attacked troops in the town of Kareto before they were repelled, it said. “The troops successfully repelled the attack and killed quite a number of the terrorists,” the statement added. It did not indicate any deaths among the troops. The Boko Haram insurgency has claimed an estimated 20,000 lives since 2009 in its bid for a hardline Islamic state in northeast Nigeria.  The recovered items include a Toyota Hilux vehicle, 2 AK-47 rifles and several ammunitions.

Manslaughter: Appeal Court grants Ibinabo Fiberesima bail pending appeal

Embattled  ex-beauty queen, Ibinabo Fiberesima, was granted bail by the Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos pending the determination of her appeal at the Supreme Court over five years imprisonment for manslaughter. Justice Deborah Oluwayemi, of the State High Court, had, in 2009, convicted Fiberesima of manslaughter, and held that her reckless driving was responsible for an auto crash which claimed the life of one Dr. Giwa Suraj on Lekki-Epe Expressway. Justice Oluwayemi sentenced Fiberesima to five years imprisonment, and overruled the decision of the State Magistrates’ Court which earlier ordered the actress to pay N100,000 for the offence. Dissatisfied with the verdict, the convict approached the Court of Appeal to nullify the verdict but, the court also affirmed the ruling. Detained Shi’ite leader, El-Zakzaky, now half-blind – Femi Falana

Medical doctors are currently battling to save the sight of‎ the detained leader of the Shi’ite sect, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky,‎ a human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, has said. In a letter to the State Security Service demanding Mr. El-Zakzaky’s immediate release, Mr. Falana said armed soldiers shot at Mr. El-Zakzaky and his wife, Zeenat, “several times.” “As a result of the brutal attack, Sheikh Zakzaky lost his left eye while doctors are currently battling to save the right one,” said Mr. Falana, a senior advocate of Nigeria. “To compound the physical pain and mental anguish that our clients were subjected to in the circumstance, the Nigeria Police Force and State Security Service have held them incommunicado for the past three and half months.” The El-Zakzakys have been in detention since December last year, after a violent clash between members of the Shi’ite sect and the Nigerian army. Appeal Court affirms Nollywood actress, Ibinabo Fiberesima’s 5-year jail term

The Court of Appeal in Lagos on Friday, dismissed an appeal by Nollywood actress Ibinabo Fiberesima challenging a jail term slammed on her by a Lagos High Court. Ms. Ibinabo was sentenced to five years imprisonment by Justice Deborah Oluwayemi of a Lagos High Court for reckless driving which led to the death of a hospital staff. She was alleged to have driven her car recklessly on the Lekki-Epe Expressway and knocked down a man, Giwa Suraj. The deceased was said to be a staff of a Lagos state’s hospital. A Magistrate court (court of first instance) had earlier given the appellant an option of N100,000 fine for the offence. The magistrate was, however, set aside by the high court which replaced the option of fine with a jail term. Dissatisfied, Ms. Fiberesima filed an appeal through her lawyer, Nnaemeka Amaechina, urging the court to set aside the five-year sentence. 4 killed as cult groups clash in Ilorin

Four persons were killed at the weekend in Ilorin, during a fight that broke out between members of the two rival cult groups over supremacy claim. The reports that last week Sunday, suspected members of cult groups struck at Ikokoro/Sakamo area of Ilorin and allegedly killed a boy simply identified as Wasiu. The latest cult clash occurred at Babaoko, Ita-Amodu and Agbo-Oba areas of Ilorin metropolis between Saturday night and 4 a.m. on Sunday. The clash heightened tension in the affected areas while residents scampered for safety. A witness said on Sunday in Ilorin that at the end of the clash, four persons including a 20- year-old man were allegedly shot. The witness, who requested anonymity, said that members of “Aiye” Confraternity first struck at Babaoko around 9.30 p.m. on Saturday night and allegedly killed two persons. The files show how Mossack Fonseca, reputed as one of the most secretive companies in the world, helped clients register offshore entities, some of which are then used to launder money, evade tax and dodge sanctions.
