Army Confirms Killing Of Soldiers

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Buratai The Nigerian Army has confirmed the killing of two soldiers in Rivers. The killings come barely 48 hours to the National and State Assembly rerun elections scheduled to hold in the state on Saturday. The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Brigade, Port Harcourt, Capt. Elli Lazarus, confirmed the deaths to the News Agency of Nigeriareports in Port Harcourt. He said that a major and one soldier were killed after an exchange of gunfire with suspected sea pirates in Abonema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area. Detained Lawmaker Dies in DSS Custody, Says Ekiti Govt

The alleged  invasion of the State House of Assembly by men of the Department of State Services reached a feverish pitch  on Thursday as the government of Ekiti State  announced that a member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Afolabi  Akanni, has died in the custody of the security agency. Akanni, representing Efon constituency , was arrested on March 4, when the DSS allegedly invaded the assembly for undisclosed reason. He was immediately whisked to Abuja where he had since been detained, in  spite of the ruling of the Federal High Court, Ado Ekiti, delivered by Justice Taiwo Taiwo , ordering the DSS to either release him with immediate effect or produce him in court  on Wednesday , March 16. Coming about two months after President Muhammadu Buhari told the Secretary-General of the United Nations, Mr. Ban Ki Moon, that Boko Haram was no longer “holding any territory as we speak,” the commander of the US Africa Command, USAFRICOM, General David Rodriguez, has stated that the terrorist group is still holding territories in Northern Nigeria. Premium Times quotes Rodriguez as declaring this on Tuesday in response to a question during testimony before the US Senate Armed Services Committee reviewing fiscal year 2017 defence budget. He appeared before the Senate committee with Generals Lloyd Austin of US Central Command and Joseph Votel of US Special Operations Command. How James Ocholi, wife, son died – FRSC

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has explained how the Minister of State for Labour and Productivity, Mr. James Ocholi, his son and wife were killed on Sunday 57 kilometers away from Kaduna. FRSC said a rear tyre of the Jeep they were driving in bust, skidded off, and somersaulted several times into the bush. Kaduna State Sector Commander, of FRSC, Francis Udoma told newsmen in Kaduna that the Minister and his son died on the spot, while the wife was rushed to the nearest Hospital, Doka General Hospital, about 15 kilomoters away from the accident scene where she also died. “The rear tyre bust and the vehicle, somersaulted into the bush. The minister and his son died on the spot, the wife died in the government hospital in Doka, Kaduna,” he said. “His driver, the Chief Detail, the Orderly and the P.A (Personal Assistant) were injured and are receiving treatment”, Udoma said.

Telecommunications giant, Globacom has debunked the rumour making the rounds that the company has dropped Nigerian singing duo, Peter and Paul Okoye of the Psquare fame as its brand ambassadors. Globacom made this disclosure in a statement in Lagos, on Thursday, where it stressed that Psquare is still with the company as its brand ambassadors. Buhari Finally Admits Nigeria Has Joined Saudi-Led Islamic Anti -Terrorist Coalition

PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has finally admitted that Nigeria has joined the Islamic Coalition against Terrorism put together by Saudi Arabia formed to combat the growth of militancy in the Muslim world.   Earlier this month President Buhari went on a tour of the Middle East where he met with several Arab leaders, including King Salman Bin Abdul-Aziz of Saudi Arabia. It is believed that he signed Nigeria up to the coalition during their talks in Riyadh, although the exact nature of what is expected is not yet known.   President Buhari said: “We are part of it because we’ve got terrorists in Nigeria that everybody knows which claim that they are Islamic. Dangote Plans To Generate 12,000MW Of Electricity

The President, Dangote Industries, Aliko Dangote, has said his company should be able to generate about 12,000 megawatts of electricity for the country by 2018. He also said that his business estate would start selling foreign exchange to the Central Bank of Nigeria by 2020. NMA Awaits Probe Report On Alleged Air Force Officer’s Battery Of Female Doctor

The Nigerian Medical Association in Osun State has said it was awaiting the report of its committee investigating a medical air force officer, Chukwuma Okpara, who was alleged to have battered a female doctor, Theresa Ugalahi, a staff of the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital. Mr. Okpara, a Wing Commander with the Nigerian Air Force, on a residency programme at the OAUTH, was alleged to have assaulted Ms. Ugalahi, last week, inflicting injuries on her. The altercation was said to have been caused when the female doctor, living in the same residential building with Mr. Okpara, delayed in removing her car directly parked behind his car when he wanted to drive out of the compound. Suspected members of Awawa cult group were today Monday 7th paraded by the police in Lagos Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni on Monday paraded over 76 suspected criminals for committing various offences in Lagos State and its environs.
